A letter written by Dandy-Day Heffernan guides their brother through a show dedicated to their mother
My brother has been in prisons since January 10th 2025.
Our father put him there for a crime he did not commit.
This wouldn't have happened if our mother was still alive but she died six years ago.
I listen to the Beatles to hear her voice again.
The Beatles were the soundtrack of our childhood.
I am an artist at the Royal Academy Schools. My practice explores childhood; remembering, recreating and returning to the past. I set myself a mission. There needed to be an exhibition dedicated to the Beatles at the Royal Academy, a giant shrine to my mother. I proposed the idea and it was successful.
This letter was sent to my brother in prison.
The letter walks him through the show.
